We are delighted to have been chosen to design and build a range of new facilities for Barling Magna Primary Academy, a popular rural school in south east Essex.
The Academy is currently expanding and is in need of extra space to cater for more pupils. As a result, it asked for tenders to design and construct a new classroom, 3 Special Education Needs & Disabilities (SEND) rooms and a space that will be used for design technology, cookery and science, as well as external works in the school grounds.
After winning the tender, we started work on the design of the buildings in February 2022. We designed the new facilities using a blockwork skin with timber cladding, complementing the current school structure. We are also installing solar panels, enabling the school to become more energy efficient and potentially sell electricity back to the grid.
Construction began in May 2022 and is due to be completed during the Spring Term of 2023. Towards the end of the project, we will also undertake some refurbishment work to the existing school buildings.
Dave Bilcliffe, Contracts Director, said:
“We’re proud to be working for one of our rural schools. Because we’re a local contractor, many of our staff live close to Barling Magna. This cuts down on our travel times, helping to reduce environmental impact. We’re looking forward to delivering some first-class facilities early next year for the current and new generations of pupils”.
