School Case Study
Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School & Nursery, Southend on Sea
A W Hardy & Co Limited secured this project in open tender to provide additional classrooms and a new suite of ancillary buildings incorporating an assembly/dining hall which, upon completion, doubled the number of classes throughout the school.
The project involved four phases starting with the provision of a new timber-framed ‘infill’ building to link the primary and junior parts of the school as well as providing the new hall facility.
A busy summer period then followed where the ground floor of the existing Junior School premises was entirely remodelled whilst retaining the structural integrity of the upper floor and roof. Having achieved the timely completion of this phase of the work, so that the school could re-open after the summer break, the other two phases required significant internal alterations to the Infant School. First of all, it was necessary to complete the linking of the two school premises through re-configuration of the existing rooms and corridors; then, subsequently, the old assembly/dining hall was re-modelled to provide new classbases so that by the end of the scheme the school was provided with sufficient space to double their pupil-intake across all year groups.
