School Case Study
Rettendon Nursery
Built on the site of the old nursery in the friendly village of Rettendon, this contemporary structure had to sit easily alongside the existing Victorian school house. Plus, in order to meet the school’s new intake, we had to rise to the challenge of a demanding contract period.
The brick and block construction incorporates a steel frame, with glulan beams and columns to create an overhanging canopy structure at the front of the building. External walls feature brickwork, render and cedar cladding, whilst the insulated metal roof completes the contemporary design.
The new nursery provides a fantastic learning environment and has been a great success with our toughest critics – the local residents.
It consists of:
- Three class bases
- Kitchen and staff facilities
- Office
- Large soft play area
- Staff car park
- Parents dropping off point
In addition we incorporated green technology by installing an energy efficient heat source pump. This absorbs heat from the outside air, even at low temperatures, which can then be used to heat radiators.
