School Case Study
Milton Hall School, Southend on Sea
Milton Hall School is large Junior School in the centre of Southend-on-Sea, which required an expansion scheme building project in order to accommodate increased pupil intake demand.
The four phases of a complex sixty week contract programme saw the successful completion of the school’s expansion programme by A.W. Hardy in accordance with the demanding timescale set out at tender stage.
The project delivered to the school an additional new two-storey teaching block alongside a new single-storey, stand-alone teaching facility to provide a nursery and two junior classrooms; all this was achieved within the confines of an already tightly-packed school site. The new buildings were constructed off concrete rafts with steel frames; external rendered and rain-screed clad infills provided a colourful and imaginative addition to the school’s built environment.
These two new-build phases were combined with a refurbishment and alteration phase within part of the existing school buildings alongside a significant and extensive external works phase which supplied new car-parking space for the staff of the expanded school. The overall multi-million pound scheme was completed on-time and enabled the school to accept the new autumn intake of pupils in accordance with local government’s plans.
