School Case Study
Hamstel Primary School, Expansion scheme
Following on from earlier projects undertaken at this school in previous years, A.W.Hardy & Co. Limited successfully tendered for another stage of Hamstel School’s building programme.
The previously erected temporary hall structure gained approval from the local planning authority for the building to be considered as a permanent structure and on the back of this approval the client added additional dining and catering space along with a sports hall. As before, a precisely sized, concrete raft-slab was poured ready to receive the new metal-clad and insulated hall extension. Breakthrough works were then undertaken to link the existing dining hall with the new sports hall.
Once again the torturous route from the main road and through the school’s premises was successfully navigated and the new sports facility with ancillary changing and shower rooms completed the building project.
In addition to the hall extension an infill extension was constructed to fully enclose the courtyard area between Junior and Infant parts of the original school premises. This traditionally built structure was integrated into the surrounding classroom elevations to add a much-needed new classbase. Careful consideration was required in respect of the building process as the internal courtyard eventually became fully enclosed by buildings, necessitating construction to be effected from the ‘inside to the outside’ of the enclosed space.
Timescale and budget were both successfully matched and capped-off a three-year long association with the school to complete its capital expenditure programme.
