School Case Study
Hamstel Junior School
Hamstel Junior School needed to address demands for increased class provision in accordance with local authority school provision assessments. A W Hardy & Co Limited were contracted to provide three new class-bases with toilet facilities to supplement the existing Junior School accommodation.
As well as providing new classrooms, the new build project provided the opportunity to incorporate under-cover access from one side of the school to the other; thus, the building scheme required alteration work to both the existing dining hall and refurbishment and revision of an old classroom in order to complete the linking-up of the entire Junior School upon completion.
The project started in January 2013 and by use of a SIPS system frame, clad with brickwork and a slate pitched-roof (to reflect the style of the existing premises) the new class-bases were provided in time for the new school year beginning in September 2013. A separate but linked multi-use games area (‘MUGA’) was also added to the scheme with special drainage and surfacing requirements. This element of the contract provided an all-year round playing area for the school’s use.
