A.W. Hardy’s Contracts Director, Dave Bilcliffe, recently put his putting and driving skills to the test at the Real8 charity golf day on 9th September.
Real8 is the contract administrator for one of our current projects at Barling Magna Primary School. So when the Real8 team organised a charity golf event in aid of the Essex Heart Fund, Dave jumped at the chance to get involved. Essex Heart Fund is an amazing charity that supports patients in our local community, as well as undertaking world-class heart research and developing new treatments for patients in Essex.
Dave attacked his 18 holes as part of mixed team that included Michael Lacey from Real8 and one of the directors of the Essex Heart Fund. While Dave thoroughly enjoyed himself, he’s the first to admit that it wasn’t the best round of golf he’d ever played!
The event, which was held at Chelmsford Golf Club, raised £10,000 overall. This money came from entrance fees, a raffle and a game that involved trying to chip a golf ball into a wheelie bin. The latter was organised by a local green waste company which donated £50 for every successful shot and gave a further £50 to the successful putter. Everyone who won donated their winnings to the Essex Heart Fund, meaning this game raised a total of £900.
Looking back on the day, Dave said: “I had a great time and I was delighted to give something back to a very worthy cause. As we all know, charities like Essex Heart Fund and incredibly talented heart surgeons do so much for us and save so many lives. It was a pleasure to take part in something that will help them to make even more of a difference.”
