Background
This prestigious residential property owes its existence to the persistence and commitment of our client, who acquired the site on former waterworks land in Essex. After years of protracted negotiations with the local planning authority were successful, A.W. Hardy was invited to bid for the new home’s construction. After an open tender, we were pleased to secure the contract after an interview process that assured the client of our attention to detail and quality.
Design
The split-level residence was designed by architect Ian Harrington. Built on a sloping site, it has views across open farmland and the Essex countryside. While the interior boasts all the accoutrements of a modern home, the external appearance evokes a traditional, cottage-style aspect with rendered walls above a brick plinth. One elevation has panels of rough-cast render divided by timber boards.
The internal space allowed for four bedrooms, a living room, a day room and a large kitchen-dining area. Cut into the hill, the residence was completed with a cellar, double garage and secondary ground-floor accommodation comprising a ‘snug’, utility area and bathroom/shower facilities (which supplemented the en-suite provision and other bathroom facilities on the main floor).
Externally, extensive landscaping was carried out to provide a gated, sweeping driveway and various brick and stone footpaths across a re-graded grassed area, left ready for the client’s own planting scheme.
We were delighted with our team’s performance in meeting the client’s bespoke requirements and wish him and his family many years of enjoyment in their new countryside residence.
