Background

A.W. Hardy was chosen as the principal contractor for this landmark project, which was to become a new headquarters for highly revered funeral directors S. Stibbards & Sons.

After planning delays and supply chain uncertainties brought about by the pandemic, the client was eager to press ahead with the build in 2022 – and equally as keen to partner with a building firm that understood how central the office was to its customers’ experience, and how much of a positive impact these new facilities would have on Stibbards’ ability to serve the local community.

The project specifications

Along with architects Breley Design, we created a building with:

  • State of the art facilities, including embalming and dressing suite
  • A large gathering room for families
  • A training room with excellent multi-media capabilities
  • A communal rest area, kitchen and outside space for staff use
  • 90+ solar panels
  • Eco-efficient heating and ventilation systems
  • LED lighting throughout

We used Kingspan composite panelling and a real stone clad frontage to add elegance to the steel-framed building, which adds a sense of contemporary gravitas to the landscape at Rayleigh Weir.

An unparalleled build for a high profile client

The premises was handed over to Martin Stibbards and his team in August 2023. It was officially opened by the Hon. Rebecca Harris MP and Ray Howard OBE.

Martin had the following to say about our involvement in the site’s development:

“We found the whole team [at A.W. Hardy] very easy to deal with, particularly our Site Manager Paul, who we knew we could rely on. Any obstacles were swiftly overcome, and we were always presented with practical, long-term solutions rather than quick fixes. Just as importantly, Hardy’s contractors kept our site clean and tidy throughout the build. We never received any complaints about the management of the site. In fact, all we’ve had are positive comments that prove what an asset Weir View House is to the area, and, of course, to our business.”
